‘Being Silent Isn’t Being Strong’ A campaign targeted at raising awareness of depression amongst young men, and encouraging them to seek help and talk about problems. Callers to the free phone helpline can receive confidential, anonymous and non-judgemental counselling from professional advisers. The campaign has been developed with involvement from the music, entertainment and sports industries to give it credibility.

Manchester Alcohol Service:

four key providers working together in response to need, providing a comprehensive support and prevention service for people with alcohol problems, their friends and families.
Two of the four partners – CAT and Smithfield Project – take self referrals or referrals for Manchester residents from any agencies or workplaces; the Brian Hore Unit only takes referrals from GPs, the other partners in MAS, Social Services, and NHS doctors and nurses, and self referrals for clients who have already used their service.  The Alcohol Care Management Team take referrals through their contact centre.

They take self referrals or referrals for Manchester residents, who must be registered with
Manchester GPs, from any agencies or workplaces. MDS consists of multi-disciplinary teams
working out of three bases across the city. The teams work very closely with GPs. Their services
include assessment and care planning, prescribing options, in-patient detox and treatment, needle
exchange, hepatitis clinic, complementary non-medical therapies, and joint work with other drug
and health agencies in the city; brief alcohol interventions for people with a drug problem; specialist stimulant service.
