Mental Health for Everyday Practice MHEP

This is a new course with 3 stages. It is for organisations, staff and volunteers who do face to face work with people experiencing poor mental wellbeing or mental health problems. Our courses are practical and interactive, supporting you to gain skills and confidence to work with people to improve their mental wellbeing.

MHEP (1) Brief Wellbeing Advice

MHEP 1 is a half-day course designed to help you better understand mental health, mental wellbeing and mental illness.  You will also learn about local services and resources that enable people to help themselves.  You will become confident to offer wellbeing advice within your everyday work role.

MHEP  1 is open to anyone who has a helping role (work or volunteering).  It is a foundation for MHEP 2 and 3.

MHEP (2) Brief Wellbeing Intervention

MHEP 2 is a one-day course designed to help you develop the understanding, skill and confidence to work with people on their troubling or difficult feelings.  You will learn about the things they might do to understand these feelings and to help themselves feel better.

MHEP 2 is open to those who have completed the MHEP 1 within the last 12 months.  It is aimed at people whose role (work or volunteering) includes supporting people to improve their wellbeing.

MHEP (3) Extended Wellbeing Intervention

MHEP 3 is a one-day course designed to help you learn different ways to motivate and support people to make changes that last.

MHEP 3 is open to those who have completed the MHEP 2 within the last 12 months.  It is aimed at people whose role (work or volunteering) includes providing ongoing wellbeing support.

Health Innovation Education Cluster (HIEC)
Mental Health Training Project

HIECs are a new kind of partnership formed between the NHS, higher education and other public and private sector organisations. The purpose of a HIEC is to provide high-quality care and services by getting the benefits of research and innovation as quickly as possible to patients, and by strengthening the co-ordination of education and training.

Please click here for a link to the Greater Manchester Health Innovation and Education Cluster website.

Manchester Public Health Development Service has HIEC approval for a project to work with Greater Manchester boroughs in order to extend the delivery of two training courses which promote better mental health and equip workers to be better able to respond to those with poor mental health.

The training courses are Interventions for Mental Health in Everyday Practice (IMHEP) and Emotional Aspects of Your Consultations

This project has now finished. Reports available below.
